Personal pick of the day for bicycle commuting: Novara's aptly named Commuter Pack. This is REI's own brand, and as such, offers a good value: lots of well thought out features at a reasonable price.

• clam shell opening allows pack to be opened flat for packing of clothes, shoes and files

• large front pocket holds tools, tubes, pump and jacket
• large pocket with stretch mesh gussets that expand to store helmet or shoes when not riding

All this, and it's a darn comfy pack to wear. I immediately ditched my "make-do" packs for this one, and haven't regretted it!
