My astronomy professor once told a story about looking through a telescope at an observatory (in Hawaii, if I remember correctly). As he looked at the image before him, he started to lose consciousness. Why? Because the image was so beautiful, he stopped breathing but didn't realize it. After seeing just some of the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in the last 16 years, it's easy to imagine having such a viseral reaction to such beauty. To see the entire gallery, visit The Daily Mail. Here's just a sampling.
The Cone Nebula, 2.5 light years in length:

Starry Night is a halo of light around a star in the Milky Way.

The Trifid Nebula, 9,000 light years from us, is a 'stellar nursery'. It's where new stars are born.
