Have you ever seen someone biking on a downslope peddling like crazy? If so, have you felt the urge to yell ‘shift!’? Not only does this bike take care of that pesky problem, it also peddles for you. It’s Hammacher Schlemmer’s 1 hp, 8 speed automatic transmission, electric bike ($5,500). It has an LCD equipped with an odometer, clock, chronograph and speedometer, all of which are backlit via electricity generated by a dynamo in the front wheel’s hub. You can travel 30 miles at 20 mph before you’ll need a 5-hour re-charge. Of course, if you run low on juice, you can always disengage the motor and get to where you’re going the old-fashioned way: peddle power.
