The Acrobat Climber

Posted May 15, 2008 in Talk | 84 views | 7 comments

These pictures give me a case of the yips somethin' serious. The guy on the wire, however, looks as cool as a cucumber--all things considered.

On May 3rd, in the Czech Republic, climber and photographer Heinz Zak walked 30 meters between a couple of sandstone towers.

Via.

Done. Plus, I included a video showing a new spin on the sport that should increase those "yips".

Wildeor--nice link. You should post it as a how-to.

P.S. Watching the guy maintain his balance while walking between two trees a few feet off the ground makes me even more yippy when considering Heinz' feat. Safety line or not!

I would just like to refute the "easy at home" method posted by BrianClimbs. I hope nobody simply buys webbing, ties one end around a tree and pulls the other with their car. You're in for a disaster. If you're serious about slack lining, buy the right carabiners and webbing, set up a system with mechanical advantage or get a few friends together to pull the line tight between two trees.

Here's a decent example

I've all ways wanted to try this, Its called High Lining by the way.  its a derivative from Slack Lining.  Essentially its titerope walking but in 1" to 2" tubular webbing.  This is suppose to help out alot with balance for climbing.  Its easy to do at home also.  Anchor one end around a tree and pull the other tight with a car/truck and now your ready for slack lining.

P.S.  I just looked at the link "Via" ....the photos are from 2 different places where he's done this balancing act.

Note that he IS tethered into a safety line.  Not that I'd be able to take even one step out there even WITH the safety line.

I have 2 questions:

1)  How did someone take the first photo of him from slightly ABOVE him?

2)  At what point did he manage to change shirts from the red one to the yellow one?
