The worst thing about opening a tent after a long storage is the smell it emits. To prevent an olfactory assault, you might want to pour some clay kitty litter in an old sock, tie up the end, and then toss the sock into the tent or tent storage bag. Stashing a litter-filled sock in your tent will not only deodorize it, the litter will help absorb moisture that causes that musty smell. The same sock trick works for deodorizing running shoes as well.
