Montrail D7s: great all-around approach shoes

These babies won the Climbing Magazine 2003 Editor's Choice Award for best approach shoe. I couldn't agree more. I got my D7s a year and a half ago and proceeded to beat the living hell out of them, leading low-grade climbs in Colorado, struggling up Bon Homme, 5.8, on Devil's Tower, hiking in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and California, wearing them around town in all sorts of weather... They still look great. And they perform - oh man do they perform. Possibly the best rock approach shoes ever.

Features:

-come in men's and women's fits/sizes

-C4 and Vibram rubber outsoles

-laces go down to the toe for a close, exact fit

-narrow toe box allows wearer to navigate difficult scrambles, easy climbing and bouldering with no problem

-hydrophobic synthetic leather upper

-stylish (admit it, style matters)

Psst. www.acmeclimbing.com carries them for only $59.99- $20 cheaper than everywhere else. Bent Gate Mountaineering, www.bentgate.com, carries the red-accented ones (not nearly as cool as the yellow-accented ones, if you ask me) for $49.99.
