A few weeks ago I was visiting a friend who lives in a semi-ritzy apartment building in a posh suburb. She had a lot of recycling to bring down to the garbage and recycling room, so I lent her a hand. After I dumped the stuff I had been carrying into the correct bins, I noticed that there was a big pile of clothing on top of the garbage dumpster. Somebody had apparently cleaned out his or her closet and been too lazy to bring the discards to Goodwill. Bastard.
Anyway, to my friend's politely disguised horror, I started rummaging through the discards. It wasn't like it was sitting in the garbage - it was on top of garbage bags. Totally different.
Nothing really jumped out at me. Then I noticed a green sleeve. I liked the color. I tugged. The fabric had a pleasant feel and stretch to it. I tugged harder.
A women's size small, sea-foam green Patagonia pullover fleece. Immaculate condition. Bears a very close resemblance to the one at this link:
I'm not even going to comment on the mentality that would allow someone to throw that away. I'm just going to say, damn. I'm glad I was at that particular dumpster that night. It's my size, my color, my style, and my new favorite mid-weight layer. Did I mention it sheds water?
It will help keep me warm when the snow starts falling like this:

Oh, wait, I moved to California. Not much snow falls here. Well, it will keep me warm when the cold January winds blow off the ocean.
What's the most interesting thing you've scored from the trash?
