shadowz--I'm so glad you approve of the Garmin purchase! Reading on-line reviews is great and all, but somebody always has something negative to say, so it's great to get the opinion of a real person. Haven't been geo-caching yet. I'm going to sound like a total wimp here, but it's been sooo cold! If anyone's been geo-caching in the winter with a snow-covered ground, I'd like to hear of your experiences. In the meantime, I'm going to just figure out how to use it!! And yeah, $150 bucks...one of those 'had to buy it because it was such a good deal' deals.
It's amazing how the prices for GPSs have come down; I remember a biking trip I took in the mid-90s where we needed a GPS, and buying one was sooo expensive!
I am experienced with all major handheld GPS systems and, in my opinion, bushnell should have stayed with making optics. Of all GPS I have used, the Onix was the most difficult to use. In my former employment I field tested it several times and if I had a choice, I'd have to agree with Campergirl and go with a Garmin.
Have you been geocaching yet? isn't it a blast?!
A Garmin eTrex Venture HC. We were just going to buy the entry level Garmin, but that one was 100 bucks and the Venture was on sale with a rebate, and we had $10 of Dick's Bucks to use it. All in all, it came to 150. So, not bad!
(Sorry for the delayed response. I'm not getting notices to comments. Bruno's on it!)
Just bought our first GPS last weekend! I'll probably blog about here one of these days. When we figure out how to use it, we're going geocaching. Can't wait!
