Another reason to worry about the rain forest?

 

According to a University of Utah chemist, a key component to the next generation of computers just might come from the shell of a Brazilian beetle.

 

While technology has yet to build the ideal photonic crystal to manipulate visible light, which will clear the way for the development of ultrafast optical computers, Mother Nature already has endowed the iridescent green scales of the beetle, Lamprocyphus augustus, with the sought-after diamond-like construction
