U.S. Army water requirements

The U.S. Army uses the following guidelines for determing water requirements of its soldiers.

At temperatures lower than 105 degrees Fahrenheit:

Light duty, like desk work, radio operation and guard duty - 6 gallons per day

Moderate duty, like a route march on level ground - 7 gallons per day

Heavy duty, like forced march, route march with heavy load and digging in - 9 gallons per day

At temperatures higher than 105 degrees Fahrenheit:

Light duty (as described above) - 10 gallons per day

Moderate duty (as described above) - 11 gallons per day

Heavy duty (as described above) - 13 gallons per day
