Inexpensive waterproofing for maps

While waterproofing chemicals for coating our maps are widely available and perform magnificently, small tubes of the stuff can be pretty pricy.

A cheaper alternative is Thompson's Water Seal, available in quantity at any home improvement store.

It comes in aerosol cans, which make for easiest application, but is much cheaper in the cans of liquid form.

I spread it on my maps with a polyurethan foam brush.
