Winter is by far my favorite time for backpacking and camping. Still, there's no reason to be a hero: instead, STAY SAFE.
Avoiding Hypothermia
- Dress in warm layers.
- Stay as dry as possible.
- Protect yourself from wind, rain, and snow
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat high-energy food
- Don't work yourself too hard.
Recognizing Hypothermia
- Shivering. A
- Slurred speech.
- Loss of coordination.
- Confusion.
- Apathy
- Irrational behavior.
