- Learn to identify habitats where poison sumac thrives.
- Learn to identify the leaves of poison sumac.
- Wear pre-exposure 'armor' lotion.
- Wear long sleeves and pants.
- Wear socks and hiking boots.
- Wash hands with soap and water immediately after contact.
- Wash clothes and shoelaces while camping/hiking/backpacking if you might have come in contact.
- Wash your hair and body throughly if you see poison sumac, even if you don't think you've touched it.
