Here's a marvelous tutorial for a DIY solar generator, perfect for campsite use.

Materials:

1.26w weather proof solar panel $30.00

12v 7.5amp rechargeable sealed lead-acid battery $30.00

12v socket $11.00

cooler $8.00

nuts/bolts $2.00 

wire plugs $2.00 

super glue $1.00

TOTAL COST: $84.00
 
Tools Needed:
drill
utility knife
screw drivers
wire cutters

Good work, Dave. You musta made that a while ago, cause that phone is OG.

I put one of these together but with an additional component: a charge-controller.

It's a gizmo that controls the charging process and prevents your battery from de-charging at night.  I never thought of putting it in a cooler though.  That is a good idea.
