Ski Expansions in Tahoe and California

Kirkwood Thunder Bowl                                                       Kirkwood Mtn. Resort
From ease of access to the latest weather information at your fingertips, California resorts are ready to kick-off an exciting new season. In fact, some like Mammoth and already have.
Sugar Bowl becomes a new home for athletes getting primed for the 2010 Olympics. They’ve installed a new skier/boardercross course Tunnel 41, which will be a training facility for Olympians. When training’s not in session, regular patrons like you and I can hop on and ride the course. Sugar Bowl will also be revamping Switching Yard Terrain Park, integrating the halfpipe into the park and improving the overall flow.
Two new lifts will provide easier access to some of Kirkwood’s best expert terrain. The chutes of Thunder Saddle, formerly a hike-to area, will be accessed by the new Vista Lift. Riders can also access Sunnyside with this lift. The new Covered Wagon Lift provides access to Farm Ridge as well as Kirkwood backcountry.
Answering the popular call for cutting-edge technology, Sierra at Tahoe will launch a new interactive radar this season that will allow website visitors to see weather radar that pinpoints conditions on the mountain. The radar will allow users to track storms in real time and will include advanced features allowing differentiation of weather patterns for different parts of the mountain. So if it’s storming at the summit and sunny at the base you’ll know about it. Sierra will also launch a mobile web site allowing smart phone users to access resort info, conditions, weather, etc.
As mentioned in our Colorado section, the Epic Pass allows unrestricted access to 5 huge Colorado mountains, and Heavenly in California. Although the November 15 deadline has passed, the good news is the Epic Pass is only $50 more than original price. Get it for $629 until December 1. Still an incredible deal. Heavenly also opens 3 new runs this season: 2 expert runs through Ski Ways Glades and 1 intermediate in Powderbowl Woods.
The Mantis Camp Express Lift replaces Lookout Express, adding nearly 500 feet of vertical to the ride for a total of 1722 feet. Mantis accesses the top in just six minutes. A new intermediate trail Washoe has been cut on Lookout Mountain. New features will be added The Stash natural terrain park including a Signature Staircase, Rainbow Tree Slide, and additional log slides and tree riding. Significant glade clearing will go down around the mountain.
Ride the backcountry with the help of a certified guide this season. Outside the Lines a new customized backcountry group tour program will provide access to all those secret stashes you knew were there but weren’t sure how to find. The tours will include runs through terrain in areas like National Geographic Bowl and Shirley Canyon. Good news for those that like to drop tricks under the stars—lighting has been upgraded on Belmont Night Park and added to Riviera Superpipe.
Revamped programs include Alpine Guides backcountry tours, Steep and Deep, a multi-day advanced level camp and women-specific multi-day ski and snowboard camps.
Mammoth has long been the world-class mega-resort that's a bit difficult to get to. That all changes this year as Horizon Airlines will begin running non-stop flights from LAX to Mammoth Yosemite Airport beginning 12/18. This will be the first flight service into Mammoth since 1995 and will be a huge step in upgrading Mammoth's travel infrastructure to allow visitors easy access of 3500 acres of big mountain terrain.

Linh,

I didn't come across this information from either Mammoth's press info or from Trikke months back. I can recall a handful of resorts that Trikke mentioned--Mammoth wasn't one but that was in the summer. Check out my Trikke article here for a list of resorts. You might also want to follow the link for Trikke and contact them, since they were busy pitching the device to resorts and would have an updated list.

hello, do you know if Mammoth allowed the use of Trikke Skki? I just recently bought 1 and planning to use it this xmas . Dont seems to get any infos from their 1-800 number. Any help is greatly appreciated. LKD
