Why is it that every camping, cycling, running, etc. site is about GEAR?Well, there's the one answer: Many activities require some sort of specialized equipment. So we look for it, review it, etc.Then there's the likely-to-be-more-true other answer: Money.Equipment makes money for someone, and sponsorship sells equipment. But you don't really need it. It's about the ride. Getting out away from cars and lights and smells and noise. I get a little bit of that every day on my way to work (I have an 8-mile commute, up to 3 miles of which can be off the grid). I get to ride with the deer! There's a price, of course, and that's the time I spend cooped up in my cubicle. But that's not where the real world is.
