I just bought a new pair of hiking boots.? I got Asolos and I had to get the guys because my feet are wider.? The guys at REI kept saying I want the boot to be roomy around my toes but I had a hard time when it came to fitting around my smaller toes.? I feel like they are too big...is it just because I'm used to trail running shoes and lighter hiking shoes? If I go a size down which I think would be better then my smaller toes and that area of my feet will be up against the boot.? Is this ok?

I think "snug" is what you're looking for... too much room around your foot and you'll get blisters, too little and you'll be uncomfortable. One thing I've heard, though, is that it's more important to have your heel and the back of your foot snug than the front. This guide confirms that thinking (that room in the toes is better than room at the heel).
Good luck!
