Hiking boot fit

I just bought a new pair of hiking boots.? I got Asolos and I had to get the guys because my feet are wider.? The guys at REI kept saying I want the boot to be roomy around my toes but I had a hard time when it came to fitting around my smaller toes.? I feel like they are too big...is it just because I'm used to trail running shoes and lighter hiking shoes?...

I'm 24 and live in St paul.  I've trekked through the mountains in Thailand and yearn to go back some day.  I'm done with school in May so I hope to go on some adventures this summer.  Hopefully to some mountains.  Just got into climbing at VE in St Paul and am hooked.   Looking for some people to climb with.  I'd like to get into bouldering.  I love sea kayaking and I love riding my bike on trails around the metro area.  Going to try and hit up some trails in greater Mn once it gets warmer out...and once I get a bike rack...  I'm also a big geek about video games and technology.
